What do we rely on at ENCAVIS? The sun. The wind. And on you.
Welcome to Encavis! Our world is all about the power of the sun, the wind and the more than 400 people across our group who are working together to shape the energy system of the future in order to ensure a sustainable energy supply for future generations.
ENCAVIS Management GmbH & Co. KG is the holding company of ENCAVIS GmbH, one of Europe's leading electricity producers from renewable energies. We operate a broadly diversified portfolio of over 330 onshore wind farms, ground-mounted solar plants and battery storage facilities in 13 European countries with an installed capacity of more than 5 GW. And best of all, we are continuing to grow! Our subsidiaries, Stern Energy SpA, which operates throughout Europe as a specialist in technical services for photovoltaic systems, and Encavis Portfolio Management GmbH, which specialises in supporting institutional investors, complement our portfolio.
What does this mean for you? The opportunity to make a difference, to shape and change things. As part of a multinational team that enjoys helping to make the energy transition a success.
As Short-Term Trading Analyst – Spain, you will contribute to the optimization of Encavis’ renewable energy portfolio across the Spanish short-term power markets. You will focus on developing quantitative bidding, trading and optimization strategies across wholesale and ancillary services markets, while improving forecasting, price signals, and algorithmic trading capabilities.
Working closely with trading, portfolio management, and technology teams, you will use market and asset data, quantitative models, optimization techniques, and modern development tools to turn complex market dynamics into actionable trading strategies and scalable analytical solutions.
This role is particularly suited to a highly analytical and technically strong candidate who enjoys solving complex quantitative problems, building tools and models from the ground up, and wants to develop deep expertise in short-term power trading and renewable asset optimization.
Your sunny outlook:
- Bidding & Optimization Strategies: you develop and continuously improve quantitative bidding and optimization strategies for our renewable assets across day-ahead, intraday, and ancillary services markets.
- Ancillary Services & Flexibility: you analyze opportunities across Spanish ancillary services and system markets and develop quantitative approaches to determine how asset flexibility can be optimally allocated across competing market opportunities.
- Flexibility & BESS Optimization: you contribute to the development of optimization approaches for flexible assets, including future battery storage opportunities, considering physical constraints, market prices, uncertainty, efficiency, degradation and opportunity costs across different short-term markets.
- Algorithmic Trading Strategies: you research, develop, backtest and improve systematic trading strategies for day-ahead and intraday markets and help translate successful trading ideas into scalable and automated solutions.
- Forecasting & Meta-Forecasting: you analyze the performance of external wind and solar forecasting providers and develop quantitative and meta-forecasting approaches to continuously improve our production forecasts.
- Price Signals & Decision Models: you develop short-term price signals and quantitative models to support bidding, trading and asset optimization decisions across different market horizons.
- Data, Quantitative Tools & Automation: you develop analytical tools, data pipelines and automated workflows using Python, SQL, APIs and modern AI-assisted development tools. You work with large and sometimes imperfect market, forecast and asset datasets and transform them into reliable inputs for models and trading decisions.
- Market & Performance Analysis: you analyze market developments, trading results and bidding performance, identify patterns and improvement opportunities and translate your findings into concrete enhancements to our strategies and models.
- Model Development & Implementation: you take quantitative ideas from initial analysis and prototyping through backtesting, validation and implementation, working with trading and technology teams to bring successful approaches into operational trading processes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: you work closely with trading, portfolio management, IT and external partners to bring quantitative ideas from initial analysis into robust and scalable trading solutions.
We'll get wind of that soon:
- Quantitative Academic Background: you hold a Master’s degree in mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, economics, data science or another strongly quantitative discipline.
- Programming & Technical Skills: you are highly proficient in Python and comfortable working with SQL, APIs and large datasets. You are able to independently build analytical tools, quantitative models and automated workflows.
- Quantitative & Modelling Skills: you have a strong foundation in statistics, optimization, data analysis and quantitative modelling and enjoy applying these methods to complex real-world problems.
- Technical Problem Solving: you are comfortable taking a problem from raw data and an initial hypothesis through analysis, modelling, implementation and validation. You enjoy building working solutions rather than only producing analysis.
- Modern Development Tools: you are comfortable using modern AI-assisted development tools and coding agents, such as Codex, Claude Code or equivalent, to accelerate research, coding, testing and automation while maintaining ownership of the underlying logic and quality of the solution.
- Power Market Experience: previous professional experience in power trading, energy markets, renewable asset optimization, quantitative analysis or a related technical field is highly desirable. Ideally, you bring up to three years of relevant experience. Exposure to Spanish or Iberian power markets is a strong advantage but not a requirement.
- Energy Market Interest: you have a strong interest in short-term power markets and want to develop a deep understanding of wholesale, restriction and ancillary services markets, renewable asset optimization and flexibility.
- Commercial & Entrepreneurial Mindset: you are curious, proactive and commercially minded. You enjoy testing ideas, challenging existing approaches and taking ownership of turning quantitative analysis into measurable improvements.
- Adaptability & Learning Mindset: you learn quickly and are comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where market conditions, technologies and priorities continuously evolve.
- Collaboration & Ownership: you enjoy working across different teams and disciplines and are comfortable taking responsibility for your own analyses, models, tools and projects.
- Language & International Environment: you communicate fluently in English and are comfortable working in an international environment. Spanish is a strong plus.
